Academy Elite Performance/ Strength and Conditioning Coach
I am extremely proud to be part of the ADS Coaching Team and excited to play a part in teaching athletes the correct foundations so that they can achieve their potential.
My journey within the professional game has involved me playing in the 1980s at Kidderminster Harriers however I suffered a career threatening injury that left me with a decision to make and I decided to take my first steps into a career in developing athletes.
I have always supported Chelsea FC even through the barren years, our first major success as a club was in 1955 when we won the league championship. In 2003 the club were purchased by a billionaire owner and the rest as they say is history. In 1983 We signed a Striker called Kerry Dixon from Reading a player that I admired and enjoyed watching. Kerry was a phenomenal striker, his movement was sensational and he scored 193 goals across all competitions resulting in being the third-highest goalscorer of all time.
My favourite modern day players are Lionel Messi and Ronaldo who both have attributes that make them the best players in the world. I also admire Fernando Torres, a player that started playing the game as a goal keeper however his talent for the game was not to be denied and turned into one of Europe’s most feared strikers.
I have undertaken various coaching qualifications and currently coach Halesowen Town u9s for the last 3 years. I believe in teaching children to play the game creatively encouraging them to make mistakes without fear.
My passion is within the sphere of Strength and Conditioning (S&C) which is a specialism which focuses on the physical and physiological development of athletes for elite sport performance. The role of the S&C coach at ADS is to bridge the gap between the theory of training and applied training, helping our athletes to become faster, stronger and more flexible and to build their muscular endurance so they perform better and remain injury free.
I take our athletes through exercises that are focused on injury prevention, my drills include plyometrics, speed and agility, endurance and core stability with strength training being just one piece of the overall jigsaw.
At ADS I am responsible for designing specific programmes that will address the particular needs of our Elite Squad. I always focus on four key areas:
Through my drills I target both the strengths and weaknesses of our young athletes helping them to produce the best possible performance. My motto at ADS is ‘Courage is taking those first steps to your dream, even if you can't see the path ahead’. If you desire to improve as an athlete and aspire to be within the professional game then look no further.
