My passion and love of the beautiful game was instilled in me by my father. I have grown up in Sandwell and been a passionate supporter of West Bromwich Albion FC. I have been fortunate in that I have been privileged to have watched Super Bob Taylor scoring crucial goals for West Bromwich Albion and latterly Kevin Phillips being such a clever striker in the box with his movement, for any aspiring professional player you can learn from watching experienced players and their movements and replicate this yourself, this was my grounding in football at a local level.
I’ve always had a passion to teach and make a difference. As a player I was a late developer, very small with fast feet. I have been in the Academy Program however professional clubs let me go as I was deemed too small to make an impact in midfield my preferred playing position. How times have changed with Xavi, Iniesta and Messi showing that size doesn't matter at Barcelona. Dealing with disappointments is part of the football journey and our focus is to build characters on and off the pitch, players are mentally strong and able to deal with disappointments.
I have studied and gained numerous coaching qualifications. More importantly I wanted to learn the South American Philosophy and embarked on studying both ‘Futbal De Salao’ and ‘Futsal’ to better understand why the South America Continent continues to produce world class talent having been mesmerised by the original ‘Ronaldo’ and now the current ‘Ronaldo’ (CR7) who both possessed not only talent but great footballing ability based on the philosophy of playing small sided games of ‘Futsal’ and ‘Street Soccer’.
My passion from a young age was to play like Ronaldo ‘The Phenom’ who was my favourite player and I wanted to master the step over skill and play with pace. I improved my skills through making mistakes and practice. I have played both “Street Soccer” and ‘Futsal’ and learnt the importance of perfecting your individual technique, spacial awareness and improved decision making. At Academy De Skillz (ADS) we instil creativity and innovation encouraging free play with an end product. We teach our players to have solid technical foundations through ball mastery and being effective in 1v1 situations. Our methods improve decision making and we continue to develop and nurture talented football players.
I want to share my knowledge and experience with my Academy students, with my coaching team we have experience of the professional game and have a proven track record for developing technical players for the professional game. My philosophy is simple, practice, practice and practice.
Here at ADS you will be on an accelerated learning experience based on our philosophy of small sided games, playing Rondo’s and mastering the ball. We have designed a bespoke program which allows our players more touches of the ball; moreover our players are subjected to more match based situations than conventional football coaching. Our coaching methods are proven and our Academy Players have all developed a high level of technical ability from our coaching program. The tight areas during matches develops good passing and skill, most importantly it improves your decision making when learning to receive the ball under pressure.
We teach all our Academy Players to become proficient at ‘Panna’ also known as ‘Nutmegs’ and to use this ability at any time of their choosing. Watching players like Luis Suarez who routinely nutmeg opponents to create and exploit space. At ADS we have our very own Panna Zone where our Academy Players practice and master their Panna variations. We encourage individuality and playing with a smile.
We use music to keep a high tempo to our training as we believe music aids the development of the brain, cognitive development is key to developing spacial awareness. Our sole focus is to develop and nurture individual talent for a team sport whilst learning through play and having fun. We believe in playing football with a smile and encourage all our parents to support the children as they learn and master techniques.
Our coaching philosophy means that every player will have more touches on the ball, this is in my opinion key to developing better technical players; we encourage this through our Rondo drills with short incisive passing, and the using of skills to create space and exploit space whilst always playing with your eyes up.
Above all else here at ADS we create an atmosphere of fun whilst teaching you the skills to play the game, if you aspire to learn in an environment of excellence, come and join our soccer school and take your first steps into the beautiful game of football.
