Lead Academy Coach
I'm really proud to be an integral part of the coaching team at Academy De Skillz. I live in West Bromwich and I am passionate about the area and the children that live in the borough of Sandwell.
I support Manchester United ‘The Red Devils’ and I have supported them my whole life, football is much more than postcodes, it's a global game with a global fan base. I recall the first time I watched Zinedane Zidane, I was watching a magician cast his spell and weave his magic. He was the most graceful midfielder in the world, he had tricks, flicks, turns and such game awareness. Moreover he had an inner desire to succeed as the best midfielder in the world, I then watched Roy Keane boss the midfield for Manchester United, with his passion and desire, his never say die attitude and I learnt that to be a professional footballer you needed to be great not just technically but mentally as well as physically too.
As a player growing up in Europe I experienced the European Academy Setup. My experience is full of great memories. However so few of the children I played with made it to the first team. I realised that in football we have to prepare for the disappointments, the pressure to win in my opinion was more important than development of all the academy boys. Moreover I recognised that the game was centred around 1 or 2 individuals who the coaches liked and the rest of us were simply making up the numbers.
You do not identify talent at ages of 5-8. The modern way of talent identification is poor, there is no focus on improving the individual player, it's a fast track to failure and hence why I support the ADS philosophy of creativity and innovation giving players the opportunity to make mistakes and learn. Improve their foundations technically, mentally and physically build on their strengths and weaknesses and not rush into professional academies to be released a few years later, having lost your childhood and formative years and not building on your footballing knowledge and creativity.
When I watch flair players they play with a freedom and innocence, nobody focuses on their mistakes but on their individual genius on the ball. It's imperative as a Coach that we instil in our children a self belief in their abilities, where mistakes are encouraged in an environment of excellence. My motto is practice, practice, practice….
I have studied the game, Liverpool FC were past masters of the ‘pass and move philosophy’ but what is this philosophy. This philosophy is based on small sided games, at Liverpool they played 5 a side. At ADS we believe in playing Futsal to improve our Elite children as these small sided games allow the boys/girls the opportunity to demonstrate their skills and abilities by having more touches of the ball.
I am proud to be a Lead Coach at ADS, I have personal experience of the professional game and want to use this knowledge to help all our children to be the best they can be everyday and play with a smile and most importantly enjoy themselves on the pitch.
“Strength doesn't come from what you can do, it comes from overcoming the things you once thought you couldn’t”.
If you want to learn in an environment of excellence then look no further, come and join have fun and learn to play the beautiful game. We have trials for our Elite Teams if you believe in yourself and want to improve, come and have trial at ADS.
